Skoropadsky Arboretum, Trostianets
A landscape park of 1834 of the Skoropadsky family on 204.7 ha, with artificial ponds and the “Swiss Gorge”.
The arboretum was laid out in 1834 by Ivan Skoropadsky, grandfather of Hetman Pavlo Skoropadsky; some sources give 1833. The park covers 204.7 hectares, with large artificial ponds on the Trostianets river. In the 1850s an artificial mountain relief began to be heaped up here — the section that came to be called the “Swiss Gorge”. The Skoropadsky manor house burned down completely in 1918. Since 1951 the park has been under the Academy of Sciences; today it is a state dendrological park of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and a monument of landscape gardening.
