Ukrainian Greek Catholic Parish, Stockholm

openas of 2026-10-011950World · Ukrainian tracesSweden

The parish of Blessed Klymentii Sheptytsky; the liturgies are held in the rented church of St John.

The first Divine Liturgy for Ukrainian Greek Catholics in Stockholm was celebrated at Christmas 1950. Until 2003 priests came only a few times a year — from Germany, France and neighbouring countries — and only in 2003 did Sweden get a permanent priest. The present parish bears the title of the Blessed Hieromartyr Klymentii Sheptytsky and serves Stockholm, Uppsala, Umeå and Luleå. The community has no church of its own: services are held in the rented Lutheran church of St John of 1890, designed by Carl Möller.

Services are held in S:t Johannes kyrka, Johannesgatan 21, Stockholm: every Thursday at 18:30 and every Sunday at 14:00 (parish website, 30.01.2024). Since 26.08.2025 the church has belonged to the Catholic diocese, and the Ukrainian community continues to worship there (Svenska kyrkan, 29.08.2025). The parish centre in Älvsjö (Götalandsvägen 242) is for meetings with the priest, and in April 2026 a Ukrainian Greek Catholic parish for southern Sweden was opened in Malmö (synod.ugcc.ua, 15.04.2026).
