Church of the Mother of God of Three Hands, Tallinn
A Ukrainian Greek Catholic church in the Old Town, rebuilt by the community after an arson attack.
The Ukrainian Greek Catholic community of Tallinn came into being in 1991 with the blessing of Metropolitan Volodymyr Sterniuk and numbered about 285 members. In 1994–1998 it rented a derelict chapel used as a storehouse on Laboratooriumi street in the Old Town from the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church and adapted it for services. At the end of 1997 the building was badly damaged by arson, after which the community bought the plot in 1998 and rebuilt the church. In October 2000 the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Lubomyr Husar, consecrated the restored church in honour of the Mother of God of Three Hands. The iconostasis was created by the Lviv artist Petro Humeniuk; a small monastery, a Ukrainian cultural centre and the Labora workshops operate at the church.
