Ukraine Square, Tallinn

openas of 2026-10-012022World · Ukrainian tracesEstonia

A square in Lembitu park in the city centre; a "Ukrainian Garden" is planned there.

On 20 April 2022 the Tallinn city government decided to create Ukraine Square in Lembitu park in the city centre — between Lembitu, Vambola and Ants Lauteri streets. Deputy mayor Madle Lippus explained that the city wanted to give Ukraine's name a worthy and symbolically weighty place in the centre of the capital; the building of Estonia's foreign ministry and Iceland Square are nearby. The site itself carries a tragic memory: the quarter was almost completely destroyed during the bombing of Tallinn in March 1944. As its next step the city announced a landscape and architecture competition, "Ukrainian Garden"; the winner was the project "Punased jooned" by the EEK Mutso office.

Ukraina aed (Garden of Ukraine) in Lembitu park, Kesklinn, Tallinn — next to the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Iceland Square (ERR, 23.10.2024). An open city park; the city is preparing its renewal, and the preliminary design was presented on 02.06.2026 (City of Tallinn website; ERR, 27.05.2026), so construction work is possible on site.
