The stretch of street with russia's embassy, renamed on 10 March 2022.

On 10 March 2022 Riga City Council renamed the stretch of Antonijas street — from Kalpaka Boulevard to Nikolaja Rēriha street — as the Street of Ukrainian Independence. Five factions of the ruling coalition voted for the decision; it was taken in support of Ukraine's sovereignty and of the people resisting russia's invasion. It is on exactly this stretch that russia's embassy stands, so it received the address Ukrainas neatkarības iela 2. The embassy building is an eclectic brick structure of 1879 designed by Johann Daniel Felsko, Riga's first city architect.
