Dormition Church Ensemble, Lviv
The Renaissance ensemble of the Stauropegion Brotherhood with the almost 66-metre Korniakt Tower.
The Dormition church was raised by the Stauropegion Brotherhood in 1591–1629 to designs by Paolo Romano, Wojciech Kapinos and Ambrosius Prykhylny; it was consecrated on 26 January 1631. Beside it stand the Chapel of the Three Hierarchs of 1584–1591 and the tower, which Petro Barbon and Paolo Romano put up in 1572–1578 at the expense of the Greek merchant Konstantyn Korniakt; the upper tier was added in 1695 by Petro Beber, and today the tower stands 65.85 m. On it hangs the bell "Kyrylo", about 2 m across, recast in 1792–1795. The patrons of the ensemble were the Moldavian hospodars, Petro Sahaidachny and Petro Mohyla; in the vaults are buried Korniakt and, by tradition, Ivan Pidkova, whose remains were later moved to Kaniv. The iconostasis of 1773 is by Filevych and Olendzky, the stained glass of 1926–1930 by Petro Kholodny the elder. Today the church belongs to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine; the Korniakt Tower, according to reports of 2020, is in emergency condition.
A working church of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine: the tower is viewed from outside, the courtyard is free to enter.
