A castle above the Uzh, a thousand years in one place.

The fortress on its volcanic hill is mentioned from the 11th century; its present look came from Italian fortifiers of the 16th–17th centuries commissioned by the Drugeth family. Inside is the Transcarpathian regional museum, next door an open-air skansen with the wooden Shelestovo church. The natural starting point for all of Zakarpattia. Uzhhorod is the home town of Robert Brovdi, "Magyar": in 2022 he put together the Birds of Magyar aerial reconnaissance unit, which grew into the 414th Brigade, and since 2025 he has commanded the Unmanned Systems Forces.

Daily 10:00–18:00; on Mondays the exhibitions are closed and only the castle grounds are open (tourinform.org.ua, prices and hours for 2026). The skansen beneath the castle walls is a separate museum with its own ticket (there is also a combined ticket with the castle); check its hours on site.
