Dormition Cathedral, Volodymyr
Mstyslav's church of the mid-12th century — the heart of princely Volodymyr.
The Dormition Cathedral was raised in the mid-12th century by prince Mstyslav Iziaslavych. The church survived the invasion of 1241 and the fire of 1683, stood in ruin through the 19th century, until the St Volodymyr brotherhood won its rebuilding: in 1896–1900 the cathedral was restored to architect Kotov's design. So the old Rus shrine came back to life.
A working cathedral in the centre of old Volodymyr.
