Vuhledar
The youngest mining town of Donetsk region, founded in 1964.
Vuhledar was built in the 1960s as a model miners' town — broad boulevards and apartment blocks amid the steppe. From 2022 it stood on the front line and held for over two years; the russian tank assaults near Vuhledar became a textbook example of failed attacks. Occupied in October 2024. The 72nd Brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians held the town for more than two years; on 2 October 2024 the General Staff announced the withdrawal.
Temporarily occupied since 2024.
