Shevchenko Monument, Winnipeg
Shevchenko before the Manitoba legislature — the heart of the oldest diaspora.
Manitoba is the cradle of Ukrainian Canada: the first settlers from Halychyna and Bukovyna arrived in 1891. The Shevchenko monument before the legislature was unveiled in 1961, on the poet's death centenary, with Canada's prime minister attending. The province's Ukrainian community holds its commemorations here every year.
The open legislature grounds; free access year-round.
