Khmelnytsky's first victory in the Liberation War, 29 April – 16 May 1648.

On 29 April 1648 Bohdan Khmelnytsky's army with its Crimean Tatar allies laid siege to the Polish camp; the siege went on within the square of the present-day villages of Zhovte, Dmytrivka, Zhovtooleksandrivka and Pakharivka, and the rout of 15–16 May took place near Popelnaste. This was the Cossacks' first victory in the National Liberation War against the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth — the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance dates the battle 29 April – 16 May 1648. The exact location of the camp is disputed: local historians propose the Zhovti Vody tract in the bed of the Zhovtenka rather than the Zhovta. In 1998 a sculptural composition was raised near Zhovtooleksandrivka, its granite blocks carved with Khmelnytsky's coat of arms and the arms of the Giray dynasty; memorial signs also stand in Zhovti Vody, Piatykhatky and Zhovte.

Open field, monument near the village of Zhovtooleksandrivka; no institution of its own. In February 2025 a free guidebook to the battle, "Kniazhi Bairaky", was published in Kirovohrad region.
