Artynov Tower, Vinnytsia
The Artynov water tower of 1912 — a 28-metre symbol of Vinnytsia with an observation deck.
The water tower was built to the design and under the supervision of Hryhorii Artynov, Vinnytsia's chief architect from 1900: according to Suspilne and “20 Khvylyn” it was completed in 1912, according to Vinnytsia.info in 1911. The octagonal structure, 28 metres high, has a stone first tier and brick upper ones. The tower supplied water through a 1.3 km water main and served as a fire watchtower and as the city clock with four copper dials. In 1941–1944 it was an observation post — traces of artillery fire remain on the facade — and after the war employees of the water utility lived in the tower. In 1983 it was registered as a monument of local significance, in 1985 a museum exhibition opened, and in February 1993 the museum of Vinnytsia region soldiers killed in Afghanistan. Today the tower is looked after by the Vinnytsia Museum; since September 2024 an observation deck has been open on the top floor.
Vinnytsia Museum in the tower: Wed–Sun 12:00–19:00, closed Mon–Tue (news.vn.ua, 07.09.2026). Vinnytsia is under attack: on 03.09.2026 drone debris damaged more than a dozen houses in a private-housing area (VITA, 03.09.2026), and on the evening of 25.09.2026 a powerful explosion was heard in the city (cvd.vn.ua, 26.09.2026).
