Terms of Use
In short: Spadok is a map and guide to the heritage of Ukraine, made by people, with an editor-verified catalogue and a community that follows the Community Rules. You use the app at your own discretion and risk — especially on the road in wartime; we do our best to keep the information accurate, but cannot guarantee that a site is open today. Your posts remain yours; you allow us to show them. This is a translation for convenience; in case of discrepancy the Ukrainian version prevails.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
The Spadok app (web version at spadok.net, apps for Android and iOS) is provided by the operator named on the “About the project” screen in the app; until a business entity is registered, by the project's author as an individual. Contact: info@spadok.net. These terms are the agreement between you and the operator on the use of the app. The Privacy Policy and the Community Rules apply together with them. By using the app you accept these terms; if you do not agree, do not use the app.
2. Age
Anyone may view the map, catalogue and routes. Creating an account, posting in the community, following people and paying is allowed only from 13 years of age; if you are in the EU, EEA or the United Kingdom and under 16 — with the consent of a parent or guardian. By signing in you confirm this.
3. What we provide and on what terms
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the app for your own non-commercial purposes: to travel, read, rate and talk. You may not: copy the catalogue of sites and routes into other products; extract data automatically (scraping); circumvent GPS arrival checks or any technical limits; manipulate votes or karma; sell access; or pass the app off as your own. The app's source code is separately available under the PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 licence (LICENSE file); the catalogue, texts, photographs, reconstructions, the name “Spadok” and the mark are not covered by that licence — all rights reserved.
4. Account
The app works fully without an account; everything you have done stays on your device. An account (via Google, Apple or anonymous) is needed for the community, follows, audio stories and Pro. You are responsible for access to your account and for everything done from it. An anonymous account cannot be recovered after signing out — we say so before you sign out. You can delete the account together with everything on the server in one action inside the app (Travel Passport → Settings → Delete account).
5. The road and safety in wartime
Spadok is a guide, not a safety service. We update site statuses (“open”, “limited”, “temporarily unavailable”, “occupied”) from open sources and travellers' reports, but they can become outdated within an hour. Before a trip check official sources, air-raid alerts (the app links to alerts.in.ua) and martial-law restrictions; do not enter closed, mined or front-line areas, military facilities, or zones the app marks as unavailable. The decision to go is yours alone, and the risks of the road are yours. Navigation in the app is built on OpenStreetMap and OSRM data and may be wrong; follow road signs and common sense. Publishing positions, troop movements, air-defence activity or the consequences of strikes tied to a place and time is prohibited (Community Rule 3) — such posts are removed immediately.
6. Your content
Everything you publish — reviews, photos, topics, comments, art, suggested places, edits to sites, testimonies — remains yours. By publishing you grant the operator a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display it in the app and on the website, store it, translate it into the app's other languages, make previews and mention it in materials about the project with your attribution; the licence lasts as long as the post exists and ends when it is deleted (except for copies in backups for up to 30 days and cases where the post has already been quoted by others). You warrant that you have the right to do this: photos are yours or under a free licence with attribution, texts are yours. The app's rule is made by hand: human-made work has priority; AI-generated work is not accepted for the shop and has no priority in the feed. Edits to sites are submitted with a source, and you allow the editors to use the corrected information in the catalogue without separate consent or attribution.
7. Community, moderation and reports
The community lives by the Rules: respect for Ukraine, respect for people, wartime safety, Ukrainian as the language of regional groups, no politics. Any post can be reported (“Report” button), any user can be blocked; folk art and testimonies are pre-moderated. We act on reports of objectionable content within 24 hours: we hide the post pending review or remove it, and block the account for repeated or serious violations. Moderation decisions and their reasons are visible in the moderation log; appeals go to info@spadok.net. We may remove any post or restrict any account that violates these terms or the law, without notice.
8. Karma, leaderboard, stamps
Karma is the sum of other people's votes for your words and actions; it is visible, including negative values, and updates automatically. The travellers' leaderboard is a snapshot refreshed several times a day. A visit stamp is granted for a GPS-confirmed arrival; a manual mark is shown separately and does not give the right to review. Attempts to fake arrival (spoofed coordinates, “teleports”) are rejected by the server and may lead to blocking. Karma, stamps and awards are in-app game indicators, not property or currency: they cannot be sold, and no compensation can be claimed for them.
9. Paid features: support, shop, fund, donations
Supporting Spadok is a voluntary contribution, one-off or monthly. It unlocks nothing: everything in the app is equally available to everyone, and the thanks for a contribution are your name in “Thanks” (with consent), a discount on the printed “Travel Book” and a quarterly fund report. Contributions are received by the Ukrainian sole proprietor (FOP) who runs the project. You can contribute in the web version using the methods open in the “Supporting Spadok” sheet: on the monobank “Base” page (one-off or as a subscription), on the WayForPay page (Visa and Mastercard cards) or by bank transfer to the sole proprietor’s account using the details shown in the app. The iOS and Android apps offer no contribution. A “Base” subscription is managed and cancelled on “Base” itself; refund terms follow the rules of the service you paid through. These methods are not linked to your Spadok account and set no status in the app. The app never sees card details. 10% of every contribution goes to the Heritage Restoration Fund.
The shop sells physical goods (merchandise, prints) under separate terms shown at checkout; prices, delivery and returns are stated there. Authors of works from the art feed receive 15% of the price of each item sold (excluding delivery) under the “Offer to the shop” terms, which the author accepts in a separate explicit step and may withdraw. 10% of the price of every item goes to the Restoration Fund.
The Heritage Restoration Fund is the share of sales and subscriptions that the operator transfers to the official accounts of museums and institutions. Where it goes is decided by a community vote on a ballot to which the editors may add urgent needs of museums; the vote is advisory, and the final decision and responsibility rest with the operator. A report on receipts and transfers is published quarterly. Contributions to the fund are non-refundable.
Donations to third-party fundraisers (for example “Rusoriz”) open via a link outside the app and go directly to the recipient under its rules; the operator is not involved and receives no money.
10. Intellectual property
The catalogue of sites and routes, editorial texts, century guides, the calendar, reconstructions (labelled “probable appearance” and reviewed by an academic consultant), the design, the name “Spadok” and the Alatyr mark belong to the operator and the project's author. The map is OpenStreetMap data (ODbL); photographs from Wikimedia Commons are used under their licences with attribution to their authors; libraries under their own licences; the full list is in the NOTICE file. If you believe something in the app infringes your rights, write to info@spadok.net with a link and the grounds; we will reply within 10 days and take the disputed item down for the duration of the review.
11. No warranty and limitation of liability
The app is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation, absence of errors, the accuracy of every date or status, or that a site is accessible on the day of your trip. To the extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for indirect damages, lost profit, travel expenses, or harm to health or property resulting from decisions made on the basis of information in the app, nor for the actions of other users and third-party services (maps, routing, payment providers, app stores). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law or your rights as a consumer.
12. Termination
You may stop at any time: delete the account and the app. We may restrict or close an account for violation of these terms, the Community Rules or the law, and may discontinue the app altogether with reasonable notice in the app. Sections 6, 10 and 11 survive termination.
13. Changes
We may change these terms; the date of the current version below will be updated, and the app will notify you separately of material changes. Using the app after a change means you accept the new version; if you disagree, stop using the app.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Ukraine. Disputes are resolved by negotiation via info@spadok.net and, failing that, in the court at the operator's location, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence. If any provision is found invalid, the rest remains in force.
15. For App Store users
If you use the app on an Apple device: these terms are concluded between you and the operator, not Apple; Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. The licence to the app is limited to your Apple devices as allowed by the App Store Usage Rules. Maintenance and support are provided by the operator; Apple has no obligation to provide them. If the app fails to conform to any warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); Apple has no other warranty obligation. The operator, not Apple, is responsible for any claims relating to the app — legal compliance, consumer protection, intellectual property. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. embargo and are not on any prohibited-parties list. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them. Third-party terms (OpenStreetMap, OSRM, Supabase) apply to their services.
If you use the app via Google Play, the Google Play terms apply in addition.
